A roundtable discussion with lawmakers and activists exploring the
current status of Palestinian rights advocacy. Speakers include
Representative Keith Ellison, Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District,
Dr. James Zogby, founder and president of the Arab American Institute,
and Linda Sarsour, co-founder of the Muslim Democratic Club of New York
and New York State Delegate to the DNC. Josh Ruebner, Policy Director
for the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, will moderate the
session.
Sponsored by The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and the American Friends Service Committee.
In Jan.-June 2016, Israeli authorities demolished 168 dwellings in
Palestinian communities in the West Bank, making 740 people homeless
(incl. 384 minors), more than in any one year in the past decade (except
2013). These demolitions were carried out only in Area C, which
comprises about 60% of the West Bank and which Israel views as primarily
meant to serve its own needs. Demolitions play a key role in Israeli
policy in the West Bank to displace Palestinians and take over their
land. Demolitions and devastating communities do not fulfill “the rule
of law”. Rather, they are a longstanding, systematic dispossession to
which all Israeli authorities are party.

From Black Lives Matter to Palestinian Human Rights to Mass
Incarceration. On the first day of the DNC, hear from a range of
progressive Americans talk about the issues that are most important to
them, what they want from their elected representatives, and the power
of grassroots movements.
"All of these movements are fighting
against a system about who counts and who doesn't. Who is worth seeing
and who is made invisible?"
Palestinian swimmer Mary al-Atrash, 22, is one of six Palestinians
competing this year in Rio as part of the largest delegation Palestine
has ever sent to the Olympics Games.
Al-Atrash will compete in
the 50 meters freestyle, but her training has been complicated. Not only
does she not have an Olympic-size pool to train in, but she also has no
training partners. Nearby Jerusalem has better facilities, including
several Olympic-sized pools and many swimmers to train with. However,
because of the Israeli occupation, al-Atrash is unable to travel to
Jerusalem to train.
Mary al-Atrash is extremely proud to wear the Palestinian colors in Rio and can’t wait to compete in the the Olympic games.

Amos Yadlin , who headed Israel’s military intelligence between 2006 and
2010, tells France24 that contacts between the Gulf kingdom and Israel
are taking place “below the radar”, stressing that both countries face
the same enemy in Iran. He also confirmed an Iranian claim that Saudi
Arabia had provided intelligence to Israel during its war against
Hezbollah in 2006, a time when he was in office.

This is an interview with a former ShinBet (Shabak) agent which was
published on Israeli Channel 2. The former field coordinator who
recruited and operated Palestinian collaborators by means of threats and
extortion, who was responsible for the murder and torture of countless
Palestinian civilians, including children, discusses his mental
condition following his years of terror.
On 9 Dec. 2011 Tamimi was hit by a tear-gas canister fired at him from
close range while throwing stones at a protest. He died the next day.
Two years later the MAG Corps closed the case on untenable grounds;
B’Tselem appealed the decision. The Military Prosecution denied the
appeal in Feb. 2016, citing implausible scenarios to absolve the shooter
and his commanders of criminal liability, thereby sending a message
that soldiers may act with impunity and underscoring the limitations of a
system that does not examine policy or the responsibility of senior
officers.

On 1 July 2016 a Border Police officer shot and killed Sarah Hajuj, 27,
from Bani Nai’m, at a checkpoint at the Tomb of the Patriarchs. The
Israel Police said she had tried to stab a policewoman. Footage captured
by a Palestinian passerby and B’Tselem’s inquiry indicate the lethal
shooting was unjustified: Hajuj - whose face had been pepper-sprayed -
was alone in the room and armed policemen were at the door. The shooting
is part of a broadly-backed policy by senior officials, permitting
lethal fire not only as a last resort and granting shooters immunity.
Iran believes Israel is holding Iranians kidnapped by the Phalange in 1982 during an Israeli invasion of Lebanon.
At Israel's apartheid parliament, all 107 Zionist Members of Knesset,
being Zionist, are incapable of dealing with the simple facts about the
civilian suffering in Gaza or the murderous attack on the Mavi Marmara.
This relates to both the deep-rooted supremacy in Zionism, which insists
on seeing 'the others' as lesser-than if not alltogether subhuman, as
well as the ultra-militaristic nature of the state which treats the army
and its soldiers as flawless, at best, and more often than not as holy.
MK Oren Hazan:
"I won't keep quiet! No one will use this podium to hurt the soldiers and the State of Israel!
What she is doing is treason! Real treason!
You are a traitor!"
The meeting Chair, MK Amar Hamad:
"MK Haneen Zoabi, I ask you to apologize for what you said about IDF soldiers."
MK Haneen Zoabi:
"This was the minor crime, but there's also the major crime: 2 million human beings who you love to forget!
Reside away from your consciousness - 2 million human beings!
They have no medicine, you are not supposed to forget them!
A whole generation who had never left...
There's a whole generation who had never left Gaza!
You are dealing with a place which according to the UN will become uninhabitable by 2020!"

Bedlam in Knesset as Arab MK brands IDF soldiers ‘murderers’ for Gaza flotilla raid
MK Hanin Zoabi on Wednesday set off a political firestorm after branding
IDF soldiers involved in a May 2010 raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla
“murderers,” and demanding they apologize.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's
office in New York City, Thursday, after Cuomo signed an executive
order requiring state agencies and authorities to divest from any
company or institution that supports the BDS boycott against Israel for
its continued occupation of Palestinian land and human rights abuses.
The
protest was organised by Jewish Voices for Peace, Jews Say No and
Adalah-NY: The New York campaign for the boycott of Israel. Protesters
slammed Cuomo for "McCarthyism" and called on the New York Governor to
rescind the executive order, which protesters say attacks freedom of
speech and freedom of expression, guaranteed by the First Amendment of
the US Constitution.
The Palestinian-led BDS movement, founded in
2005, was modeled on the global campaign to bring an end to Apartheid
in South Africa. The BDS movement aims to put international pressure on
Israel to respect the human rights of Palestinians, those under Israeli
military occupation in the West Bank and Gaza, those living as unequal
citizens inside Israeli territory and the 12 million refugees denied the
right of return to their homeland
