The Gaza Flotilla is now on its' way to the Gaza City port in Gaza, with Israel still threatening to stop the eight ship flotilla trying to bring humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
What has happened so far is an interesting story. A cargo ship from Ireland, rechristened the Rachel Corrie, is among the ships carrying 10,000 tons of aid to Gaza. A Turkish human rights organization has chartered a passenger ship to carry over 800 activists, including 40 politicians from the European Union. Two of the ships, the Challenger I & Challenger II, developed unexplained mechanical troubles off Cyprus. Cyprus, an EU member, denied them the right to enter a port on the island & make repairs to their boats. But they then went to North Cyprus, & made repairs in port
(To digress, Cyprus the EU member, is the Greek part of the island. North Cyprus is Turkish, and a separate republic that is only recognized by Turkey. I get the idea the reception the flotilla got is more due to the fact that there is a strong Turkish component to it than any pressure from Israel.) The two ships have now rejoined the flotilla, which is on its way to Gaza. Kossacks can track the flotilla here and here.
