slogans that fail to address the root problem: Israeli occupation,
settler-colonialism and apartheid
    





Rana Ramlawi is a sand sculptor in Gaza City.

She started carving surface drawings on sand and later developed her
talent to create large sculptures that take days to complete.

“I sculpt ideas,” Ramlawi told The Electronic Intifada. “Like the
Palestinian issue and the issue of Palestinian tradition.”

“I don’t make decorative sculptures,” she added.

Ramlawi dreams of participating in international tournaments where she
can represent Palestine.

on the morning of 17 June 2019, Israeli Civil Administration officials
came to Khirbet Khilet a-Dabe' in the South Hebron Hills with a Border
Police and military escort and two bulldozers. They demolished a cement
block structure roofed with corrugated metal that was home to a family
of 12, including 7 children. The troops also demolished the room that
housed the family's solar power equipment and confiscated a solar panel.
The homeowner, who tried to prevent the demolition, was knocked over by
police. The troops then went on to Khirbet al-Halawah. At 11:00 A.M.
they demolished another three cement block structures with corrugated
metal roofs that were home to three families, leaving 21 people,
including 11 children, homeless.

Every year during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, Israeli
authorities approve a package of “relaxation of movement restrictions”
for West Bank Palestinians to facilitate worshippers' trips to
Jerusalem. As a result, tens of thousands of Palestinians headed to
Qalandiya checkpoint, Bethlehem 300 checkpoint, and Zaytoun checkpoint
early on Friday mornings to take advantage of the unusual regulations.
